چکیده

This paper presents computational approaches to the problem of semantic analysis, which is a crucial term in language technology applications, e.g. dialogue systems and machine translation. Explanations are supported by Croatian language example sentences. The focus is on syntax-driven semantic approach that is based on the principle of compositionality and on the process of augmenting ContextFree Grammar rules. There are also cases where the meaning of a constituent is not based on the meaning of its parts in straightforward compositional sense, and this paper presents a way of dealing with such cases as well.

Towards a Contrastive Pragmatic Analysis of Congratulation Speech Act in Persian and English

This paper aims at studying the speech act of congratulation in Persian and English with regard to semantic formulas. To gather the semantic formulas related to congratulation, the researchers chose 100 movies (50 in Persian and 50 in English) as the instrument of the study. The only model of cross-cultural comparison was related to that of Elwood (2004). Therefore, we used Elwood’s model as th...

A Comparison between Three Methods of Language Sampling: Freeplay, Narrative Speech and Conversation

Objectives: The spontaneous language sample analysis is an important part of the language assessment protocol. Language samples give us useful information about how children use language in the natural situations of daily life. The purpose of this study was to compare Conversation, Freeplay, and narrative speech in aspects of Mean Length of Utterance (MLU), Type-token ratio (TTR), and the numbe...

A New Method for Improving Computational Cost of Open Information Extraction Systems Using Log-Linear Model

Information extraction (IE) is a process of automatically providing a structured representation from an unstructured or semi-structured text. It is a long-standing challenge in natural language processing (NLP) which has been intensified by the increased volume of information and heterogeneity, and non-structured form of it. One of the core information extraction tasks is relation extraction wh...

Exploring EFL Learners’ Use of Formulaic Sequences in Pragmatically Focused Role-play Tasks

Communicative language use largely entails regular patterns consisting of pre-constructed phrases or sequences. These sequences have been examined by many researchers to find the situation-based formulas which may help L2 learners follow a possibly more target-like speaking system. This study, therefore, explored two categories of formulaic expressions including speech formulas and situation-bo...

Learning Structured Natural Language Representations for Semantic Parsing

We introduce a neural semantic parser which converts natural language utterances to intermediate representations in the form of predicate-argument structures, which are induced with a transition system and subsequently mapped to target domains. The semantic parser is trained end-to-end using annotated logical forms or their denotations. We achieve the state of the art on SPADES and GRAPHQUESTIO...
